Mikkola’s past research has largely focused on feminist philosophy, and more specifically on feminist metaphysics and gender. Her more recent work has been on philosophical debates pertaining to pornography, on which she has published a number of papers and a book last year.

At the UvA, Mikkola will undertake a research project on philosophical methodology from the perspective of socially engaged philosophy involving feminist philosophy and philosophy of race. This project will form her third monograph, Dissident Theorizing (to be published by Oxford University Press).

The chair that Mikkola will hold is part of the Philosophy department and focuses on metaphysics, the history of philosophy, non-Western philosophy and the philosophy of science. Mikkola will take charge of the programme group Philosophical Tradition in Context.
