In her research, Roest focuses on the development of national and European company law. She looks at topics such as the harmonisation of company law within the EU, cross-border mobility and employee participation. She also examines shareholder disputes in limited liability companies and investor claims. Roest is involved in the international research project on the European Model Company Act (EMCA) and is a member of the Informal Company Law Expert Group (ICLEG), established by the European Commission.

Roest is chairperson of the Examinations Board of the Amsterdam Law School. She is also closely involved in the Master programmes in Private Law, the Commercial Legal Practice track and in the Labour and Enterprise track. In addition, Roest teaches in both the Bachelor's subject Company Law and the Master’s subject Company and Legal Entity Law.

As a professor, Roest will focus on the development of European company law, as well as on Dutch corporate law, in particular non-listed companies, the variety of its forms, shareholder disputes and the position of the company’s stakeholders (including employee participation).

About Joti Roest
Roest has been associate professor of Private Law (Company Law) at the UvA since 2005. Since 2009, she has also been a deputy judge at the Rotterdam District Court. From 1999 to 2005, Roest was a lawyer at Houthoff, working in corporate transactions and litigation. She previously worked as a university lecturer at Radboud University where she obtained her PhD in 1996 with a thesis on Employee Participation in Financial and Economic Decisions, and was also a researcher at Utrecht University.

Roest regularly publishes on (European) company law. She is editor-in-chief of the journal Case Law Company Law (Kluwer).
