Prof. A.M. Pacces has been appointed professor of Law and Finance at the University of Amsterdam’s (UvA) Faculty of Law and Faculty of Economics and Business. This interdisciplinary chair comprises a joint appointment at both faculties.

Alessio Maria Pacces’ research focuses on the economic analysis of corporate law and financial regulation.

As professor at the UvA, Pacces will carry out research into the consequences of economic and technological development for the efficient regulation of finance and corporate governance. Pacces will be the director of the Amsterdam Center for Law and Economics (ACLE). He will also have a leading role in the new Master’s programme in Law & Finance, which will be jointly offered by the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Economics & Business. In addition, he will teach the course Securities and Market Regulation, which forms part of the Master’s in Law & Finance, and will be responsible for the contents and coordination of the Law & Economics Minor. 

About Alessio Pacces 

Pacces was endowed professor of Law and Finance at Erasmus University from 2012 until 2018. As leader of the European Master in Law and Economics (EMLE), he secured three consecutive rounds of Erasmus+: Erasmus Mundus funding. Pacces joined Erasmus School of Law in 2006, where he obtained his PhD in Law and Economics (cum laude) in 2008 and subsequently worked as assistant professor and associate professor. From 2000 to 2007, he was a senior researcher at the Italian Central Bank (Banca d’Italia). 

Between 2008 and 2018, Pacces had visiting positions at National Taras Shevchenko University of Kiev, Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research in Mumbai, Columbia Law School, Haifa University, and LUISS-Guido Carli University in Rome. Previously, he was visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley. He has been a research member of the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI) since 2009.

Pacces has published extensively in various international peer-reviewed journals, including the Annals of Corporate Governance, the American Business Law Journal and the International Review of Law and EconomicsHe also published in law journals such as Harvard Business Law Review and in books with houses such as Edward Elgar, Routledge, Oxford and Cambridge University Press.
