Marc de Werd's work centres on how constitutional and professional ethical principles shape the role of the judicial system. He will also be teaching in the minor on court professions, part of the Bachelor's programme in Law, and in Master's level courses on professional practice.

The UvA's Faculty of Law has four chairs in the legal professions, in the areas of Legal Practice, the Public Prosecution Service, Legal Aid and in the Judiciary, which De Werd will occupy. All four chairs combine teaching and research in professional legal practice.

About Marc de Werd

De Werd has served as a court judge since 1999, first at the Court of Amsterdam, subsequently at the Amsterdam Court of Appeal, and now as a senior justice at the Central Appeals Tribunal, where he is also the coordinator on European law. He is also deputy justice at the court of appeal in Amsterdam. From 2015 De Werd held the special chair in the European Judiciary at Maastricht University. He is furthermore the Dutch delegate to the Consultative Council of European Judges at the Council of Europe, as well as editor-in-chief of Rechtspraak Europa, the Amsterdam Court of Appeal's monthly newsletter, and founder and editor of the blog European Courts.
