Mariëtte Goddijn is a trained gynaecologist, specialised in reproductive medicine. She conducts clinical and pathophysiological research in the field of reproductive medicine. Her research encompasses studies on early pregnancy complications and fertility preservation. For example, she is currently supervising four randomised controlled trials on recurrent miscarriages and ovarian hyperstimulation in women with breast cancer. It is Goddijn’s ambition to find permanent solutions and provide prognostic information with the ultimate aim of increasing the chances of healthy offspring among individuals whose wish it is to have children.

Goddijn has been affiliated to the Center for Reproductive Medicine of the Academic Medical Center (AMC) since 2000. She is the co-founder of the AMC’s Early Pregnancy unit and of its Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) team, which established transport PGD within ‘PGD Netherlands’. Goddijn presently has a seat on the executive board of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology, where she coordinates, among other things, the development of European guidelines in the area of recurrent miscarriages. She is also vice-chair of the Fertility Preservation working group of the Dutch Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Goddijn has published numerous books and scientific papers in the field of reproductive medicine, including in The British Medical Journal and New England Journal of Medicine.
