In the new academic year Ruth de Bock will be teaching civil procedural law, with an additional focus on the theory and practice of civil procedure. Quality and justice are key topics of interest.

De Bock has been advocate general at the Supreme Court of the Netherlands since 17 February 2016. Prior to this she had been a senior justice on the commercial team at the Amsterdam Court of Appeal since 2009. From 2000 until 2009, De Bock was a justice at the Leeuwarden Court of Appeal, likewise specialised in commerce, and before that a judge in administrative law and civil law at the Court of Assen. She took her PhD (cum laude) at Tilburg University in 2011, where her research centred on fact-finding in civil procedure (her thesis is titled, Tussen waarheid en onzekerheid: over het vaststellen van feiten in de civiele procedure).

De Bock holds a number of ancillary positions, including as deputy justice in the Central Appeals Tribunal, member of the Groningen Regional Disciplinary Committee for the Healthcare Sector and member of the advisory committee on the modernisation of evidentiary law (Adviescommissie Modernisering Bewijsrecht). De Bock also teaches at the Training and Study Centre for the Judiciary (SSR), the training institute of the Dutch judiciary, where she teaches various courses, including on court appearance and in-depth evidentiary law.

De Bock is the author and main editor of the book Sdu Commentaar Burgerlijk Procesrecht (a commentary on civil procedural law) and the author of Burgerlijke Rechtspleging (on civil procedure) in the Wolters Kluwer 'green series'. She is also the editor of the journal Tijdschrift voor Civiele Rechtspleging and of the interdisciplinary journal Expertise & Recht.
