UvA celebrates a decade of ERC grants
This year the European Research Council (ERC) celebrates its 10th anniversary. To mark the occasion, an ERC Celebration Event will take place on Thursday, 7 September. The event will reflect on the success of the ERC and look ahead to future developments, including Synergy Call, a new grant focused on interdisciplinary research.
Over the past ten years the ERC has awarded grants to almost 7,000 researchers across Europe, with researchers at Dutch universities having been particulary succesful in obtaining ERC grants. Since the beginning of the grant programme, a total of 94 researchers from the UvA and the Academic Medical Center have received funding, making the UvA the Netherlands’ top host organisation.
A word from the recipients
The keyword address will be given by Professor Helga Nowotny, founding member and former president of the ERC, who will focus on 10 years of ERC. Professor Karen Maex, UvA rector magnificus, will then speak on the subjects of impact and interdisciplinarity, following which four ERC recipients will give a short lecture: Dr Louis Vermeulen (AMC Principal Investigator on Tumor Biology), Prof. Sonja Smets (professor of Logic and Epistemology), Prof. Ralph Wijers (professor of High-Energy Astrophysics) and Prof. Amade M’charek (professor of Anthropology of Science).
The event is organised by Innovation Exchange Amsterdam (IXA), AUAS-UvA and the UvA’s Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) and is partly made possible by ‘385 years UvA’.
